It looks like I’ll have to give a bit higher percent credit to my sleep problems as a contributing factor to my breast cancer. I’ve assigned a large percent to my sugar addiction in my younger years and chemicals from all sources, but in this latest article, Olivia Judson informs us of the consequences of a little light in the middle of the night: “Exposure to light in the night has been linked to breast cancer; consistent with this, women who are totally blind have a lower incidence of breast cancer than those who can see even a little bit.” Read her whole article below. Many of my friends and family replied with relief and support to my announcement that I would be admitted for surgery and my request for prayer, so, of course I was very encouraged and entered the hospital without fear and full of faith. I had that peace of mind that comes only when we’re trusting Jesus completely. I knew I was in His hands and nothing would happen without His allowing it for my good somehow, because He loves me. Long ago I chose Him as my Master, my Anchor and my Friend, and I trust Him completely—as my Husband—even until death. (Death is not the end anyway–the best is yet to come! it’s only a door to the beginning of a truly Heavenly life! So what is there to fear?) (more…)

It is completely understandable that you are stressing! There is simply too much to think about and no one there who can help guide you. You should not be losing weight–you are already quite thin. D. did lose a lot of weight on this diet but he could afford to as he was about 30 pounds overweight when he began it. Are you eating avocados and bananas? They are higher in calories than many fruits and the avocados have very good oils. I would try to find a way to add them to your breakfast line-up. (more…)

Dear L,

It’s such a blessing to be in touch with you at this time. I see it as more than a coincidence that we had lunch together this past summer and could connect on this very important issue. I do keep coming back to “A Cancer Battle Plan” and am so glad I have a copy.

However, as much as I’d like to say I’ve got it all figured out now, I’m still unsure of my best course of action eating-wise. I know that getting the results of the tissue analysis will help some, but I also expect the doctor who delivers that news will also be armed with the usual pharmaceutical options and I’m not interested in that route. At least, not now. I’ve read enough to give me hope in the body’s own ability to wipe out the cancer. (more…)

Dear Mom and Dad,

Hi! It’s me again. J. just came back yesterday afternoon and we finally got a few minutes to pray together about things. I still have a busy schedule and he has to also jump right into things here (in spite of jetlag and radical change in climate!) So, for now, I thought I could at least let you know where things are at with my short-term plans.

As I mentioned before, I’ve begun drinking a herbal tea to help build up my stomach, kidneys and liver as it seems they are weak. This part of my plan, (if not exactly this method) fits (more…)

Dear Mom and Dad,

Thanks for your love, concern and generosity, as always. You are welcome to let others know at anytime. I mentioned that in my first letter as I thought you might receive it Sunday morning and would meet people at church whom you might want to tell. I figure the more people who know, means the more prayer power and that’s my first line of defense/attack. Even the unbelieving French doctor (more…)

Before I continue with my challenge of how to adjust my diet to defeat the cancer, I thought I’d include some of the communications I sent to my family and friends. It’s personal, but summarizes how I was feeling and thinking at the time. Here’s the first letter written when I first knew I had cancer.

I’d like to state here for the record that this tea is not like anything you can buy off the shelf in a health food store. I have enjoyed all manner of herbal teas for years and most likely also benefitted from their natural properties, but this is totally different. Herbs are chosen because of their individual properties and/or for their synergistic effect when cooked with the entire concoction. The taste is unique to each batch’s recipe, of course depending on the ingredients. I actually have two separate batches which are prepared and drunk on alternating days. (more…)

That night my husband called from Europe and right away asked about the results. I think he was even more shocked than I had been. At first, he didn’t know what to say. Then he asked me what I was going to do and assured me he’d pray for me, but it was a very difficult thing to talk about. I briefly shared what the doctor had said, what my options were and what I was thinking and feeling about it so far, but, probably like most people, I knew so little about the subject and really wanted to make an educated decision.
I didn’t sleep much that night, or the next night or the next or the one after that! (more…)

Wow! I’m rolling now! I’ve just posted something on my “About” page to get things started. Last night I was awake in the night; couldn’t get back to sleep with things on my mind about this blog, so I got up. I turned on the computer and continued typing my story of my journey with cancer until about 5 a.m. I then went back to bed and slept soundly. Sleep issues have plagued me all my life and one of the sleep-thieves, in fact, probably the most successful culprit is my over-active mind! I can’t get it to turn off! Oh well, I got something done that needed doing anyway. I’ll be posting my story sooner or later. Either I’ll finish it first or I’ll post it bit by bit. Not sure which. Stay tuned!
